So, in this instance, the subject is 'I', the verb is 'drank' and the item is 'two cups of espresso'.

- Energetic: He gave me the e book / He gave the ebook to me.


- Passive: I was given the e book (by him)/ The guide was given to me (by him).

The passive in subordinate clauses

- Energetic: I thought that Mary had kissed John.
- Passive: I assumed that John had been kissed by Mary.


- Active: He knew that folks had constructed the church in 1915.
- Passive: He knew that the church had been built in 1915.


- The little one loves being cuddled.
- She would like to be promoted.

When ought to we use the Passive?
